Goodbye Harvey Korman, Sydney Pollack

Gotta love irony.  Yesterday I wrote about Mel Brooks’ History of the World, Part I – a rather obscure movie known well among those who have seen it but seen by few.

One of the lead actors was Harvey Korman who passed away yesterday.   Irony.  Not only was he funny in that movie, but I remember as a kid watching him on the Carol Burnett show.  I loved how that ensemble cast would crack themselves up during skits then collect themselves to deliver more knockouts.  You think about shows like that and you think how much fun America had watching them, but I imagine they had more fun making those shows.

His passing followed another great actor and a great director, Sydney Pollack who passed a few days ago.  Sydney was involved in many great movies like the memorable and hilarious Tootsie (no doubt inspiration for Bosom Buddies which gave us Tom Hanks, and Mrs. Doubtfire with Robin Williams), but again ironically, Sydney was involved in 2 movies we watched this week – Recount on HBO about the 2000 Presidential Screwup Election and Michael Clayton (from the library) with George Clooney.  Irony.

You know how they say famous deaths happen in 3s?  We have another movie to watch from the library this week – Shooter.  If Danny Glover dies this week, I’m going to be ticked.  And freaked.  More freaked than ticked.  Freakin ticked maybe.

And Bo Diddley makes 3.  Thanks Bo for the music and for the rhythm.  Danny Glover – take a deep breath and relax.
