Our first experience with the Harvest Host program was Puddicombe Estate Farms between Niagara and Toronto, Ontario.
Out of all of the farms in the area this was the one we really wanted to visit. We enjoy wine but we’re not aficionados plus we have 5 kids. So Puddicombe Farms’ diverse offering was too good to pass. And wow did they deliver on our expectations.
The petting farm, the apple/peach side, the maple fudge (oh the maple fudge), the peach pie and more. But the best from my perspective was the solitude. I awoke before the farm and walked with my camera – looking for views that you just won’t see with crowds of people/shoppers. For an hour, I had the farm lands/trails to myself.
And I walked away respecting the 7 generations of family that keep this farm relevant in a world that has forgotten the farmer.
I haven’t forgotten and if you’re in Hamilton/Toronto – in an RV or not – stop by Puddicombe Farms and see how a working farm does it in the 21st century. Purchase and sample product made from real passion and many lifetimes of experience.
