Relaxing Routines

Read more »I am creating a new category today with this post – Stress Down – in which I will post articles about how I reduce and keep stress to a minimum.
A question I hear alot from people is: ‘How do you handle stress so well?’ The answer: splurge stresses I handle very well – I grew up with more stress than the average Joe so I have skills.
But, just like anyone, I have those stress points that make me freak in a heartbeat. How do I beat those?Well, I take the advice of that stupid movie ‘Karate Kid’ – no, not ‘wax on wax off’, I take Mr. Miagi’s advice that ‘the best way to take punch is NO BE THERE.’
Ah, wise old man. The best way to handle stress is to not have any. Oh, don’t you roll your eyes.
It IS possible.I’ll blog more about that later, but today I’m thinking about relaxing routines. What routines do you have that relax you?
For me, I like water. I don’t have a home water fountain like those on Amazon – but that’s only because I have kids who would cause more stress with that than it could possibly relieve. I’d love to have one of those in the bedroom to help me sleep faster, but I’d probably need a waterproof mattress pad too as I could be influenced by the sound of running water to run my own water. :0
So for me, I take my water escape in the shower, but it can’t have just your garden variety shower head. I have a decent shower head, but the kicker is the 4 jets built into the wall. Ahhh…nice and hot. At least until I run the hot water dry in about 12 minutes. But, man – what a relaxing 12 minutes. And it creates enough steam that I can paint out my visions on the steamed glass. What I wouldn’t give to see a contraption that wirelessly transfers those images to my computer. No you freak – not the images of me drawing in the shower! The images of my visions – my creative thinking that transpires in my little sauna/waterfall.
In our old house, I didn’t have such a nice shower, but I went out and bought one of those huge rain shower heads – that was my old refuge and it worked pretty well too. Water soothes me – recharges me.
So, what’s your routine? How do you get away from it all and do you do that frequently enough to recharge your batteries? Remember, good routines should be cheap, easy for you to do and give you space and not piss off your significant other. So don’t use this an excuse to book more Vegas trips – ‘but honey, I read this guy’s blog who says I need to go to Vegas and find my inner self!’ – ah, nice try.
